Brene Brown - The UP Experience

Some of you may have seen Brene Brown's TED Talk that made its way around the internet a few months ago - a talk on what she has learned in spending the past ten years studying a concept that she calls Wholeheartedness.

Sandra Kiume posted a Brown video I was not familiar with Psych Central's Channel N. This newer video (at least to me) deals with shame, an issue most men know all too well in our lives - it was often the tool that shaped who we became as men.

She also talks about worthiness - and this another topic I hear about in the men I talk to (the ones who are self-aware). A lot of men don't feel in worthy in many ways, whether it's financially, sexually, emotionally, physically, socially, or in some other way (including as fathers). And unfortunately, our culture doesn't do much to help men feel good about themselves.
The UP Experience

A researcher who studies shame talks about how it gets in the way of our “how to” happiness. She explores the roots of worthiness, “never good enough” and perfectionism, and the role of gender with shame. “Courage to me is the ability to tell your story and like yourself in the process of doing that,” says Brown.
