Centre for Research on Men and Masculinities Workshops
March 17-18, 2011
CROMM Workshop: The state of play in the critical study of men and masculinities.
CROMM’s inaugural workshop is intended to assess the state of play in the critical study of men and masculinities, facilitate the establishment of research collaborations, and launch the Centre for Research on Men and Masculinities.
In summary:
- The workshop will take place on March 17-18, at the University of Wollongong
- Leading scholars will attend and contribute
- The two-day event will be participatory in emphasis
- The workshop will focus particularly on three themes: (1) men and gender equality, (2) men’s violence and health, and (3) men’s movements or migrations across geographic borders and in virtual fields.
The workshop aims to bring together leading scholars or researchers in the field, and to start a series of conversations and collaborations which we intend to sustain and intensify. The event will showcase contemporary trends and issues in scholarship on men, masculinities and gender. Keynote papers will be complemented by a range of short presentations and participatory discussion. We will focus in part on how to develop critical masculinities studies in Australia, including in ways which build national and international linkages.
