Somehow it's not surprising that San Francisco's Giants are the first pro sports team to join the It Gets Better Project. On the other hand, to take this stand in the largely anti-gay world of professional sports is an important and admirable thing to do. Good for them. Male sports remain one of the last places where it is acceptable to be openly homophobic.

So, at least for now, it really doesn't get better if you are gay and you are an athlete. Which really sucks.

Professional sports are still rank with homophobia, so major props to pitchers Barry Zito, Matt Cain, Sergio Romo and outfielder Andres Torres for standing up for gay teens.
